The company is selling more than convenience: it is selling control—configurable subagents, clarification prompts that avoid blind edits, and unified modes that let teams tailor permissions and workflows without sending code outside their trust boundary. Technically, the product rests on Devstral 2, a dense transformer family that prioritizes parameter efficiency over sheer scale, with a larger 123-billion-parameter model and a 24-billion-parameter variant that can run on consumer hardware. That engineering choice trades raw benchmark arms race metrics for deployability on private infrastructure, a critical advantage for banks, healthcare providers, and defense contractors bound by regulation and secrecy.
